The best in the world

2013-12-10

From hundreds of hotels from the 5 continents, Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest Klotild Palace was selected to be the best. This recognition is a big honor, because it is the first hotel in Hungary that could win this award

Owners of the hotel have Jordanian-Hungarian citizenship. Deputy State Secretary for Global Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Peter Wintermantel declared that this award is significant as Hungary finds the good relationship with the non-European countries important. Primarily the Arab world has a prominent role, and Jordan is one of the most important partners. The Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest Klotild Palace that belongs to the Mellow Mood Group and opened a year ago is a good example for the economic cooperation.

“I believe in the personal relationships” – highlighted Mr. Zaid Naffa, Honorary Consul of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Hungary at the celebration of the award. In the tourism it is almost invaluable how a tourist visiting a country can effect their compatriots by telling them their experiences. If they suggest something, it is more valuable than any advertisement. It is usually said that one tourist tells at least 8 others what he saw and experienced. The fact that Jordanian businessmen could bring such an award to Hungary can positively influence the number of visitors.

Mellow Mood Group has 13 hotels in Hungary and 1 hotel in Vienna. One of them is the first 5-star hotel in the portfolio, the Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest Klotild Palace. According to the general director, Mr. Tamás Fazekas it is an important factor in a hotel’s life to be evaluated internationally. This award is significant while it is not a domestic or European award, 500 hotels from the 5 continents participated and previously never could a hotel from Hungary win this Best International Hotel Interior award given by the London based International Hotel Awards association.

It is strictly a professional award but supported by the public’s and guests’ feedback, because the building creates its own clientele. It happened several times that someone – during their trip in Europe – came to Budapest just to try this hotel. The hotel with 27 suites out of the 102 rooms, conference rooms and a beautiful Spa opened in summer 2012 in the neo-baroque building from 1899-1902. Currently it is part of such a franchise that started  20 years ago in Paris and currently has restaurants and hotels in 16 countries. There are only 3 Buddha-Bar Hotels in the world, one in Prague, Budapest and Paris.

The International Hotel Awards is one of the most prestigious competitions in the international hotel sector since 20 years. The hotels can apply in 17 categories, Buddha-Bar Hotel Klotild Palace applied in the Best Hotel Interior category. To win the award all applicants should be the best in their own category in their own country. After this comes the competition of the five regions (Europe and the United Kingdom, Arabic countries and Africa, Asia and the Pacific-ocean region, America, Caribbean region). By winning the Best International Hotel Interior Award Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest Klotild Palace not only was successful in the European region, but among all hotels globally.

For the application an almost 100-pages long book had to be prepared, introducing the history of the Klotild Palace, the reconstruction work, the aspects of environmental protection and national monument protection, plans prepared by the interior designers, the innovative technologies taken the sustainability into consideration, the pavements, the design elements, which were evaluated by an international jury following a strict system. The award ceremony was held in the Grosvenor House Hotel in London in November.

Hundreds of professionals from the tourism industry participated in this event – said Mr. Zuhair Awad, one of the owners – because the winners are recognized not only by the domestic, but the international touristic sector. We are proud of our colleagues working in the hotel, the designers and the contractors, because together they won this award. His co-owner, Mr. Sameer Hamdan explained that this award will help Buddha-Bar Hotel Budapest Klotild Palace gain recognition around the world.
